Ask the Expert:
What is refrigeration cargo?
Refrigerated cargo is typically perishable commodities that need to be refrigerated during transit (i.e., fruits, vegetables, meat, etc.) These commodities are often hauled in a reefer.
The term reefer is an abbreviation used in the trucking industry to refer to a refrigerated container. A reefer truck is then a truck hauling a container that is refrigerated for temperature sensitive freight (i.e., produce).
Reefer breakdown is insurance that protects against refrigerated cargo spoilage due to mechanical and/or electrical failings or an accident.
