Ask the Expert:
What is an MC?
MC is an abbreviation for Motor Carrier number. Historically, an MC number has been used to identify a carrier who transports regulated commodities for-hire in interstate commerce, while a US DOT number identified carriers operating in interstate commerce.
However, starting January 14, 2017, MC, MX, and FF numbers will no longer be issued; DOT numbers will be the sole identifier for all companies who are subject to FMCSA regulation, including motor carriers.
